Introduction

Not much more is known about Giacomino Pugliesi than DGR indicates in his note on the poet in The Early Italian Poets. Giacomino was one of the court poets of Frederick II. DGR's source text is Poeti del primo secolo (I. 243-244). The translation is for the most part close, but at a few points (for instance, line 4) DGR freely interprets, usually—as in this case—to excellent effect.
