Scholarly Commentary

Introduction

This letter carries two important poetical materials: a suggested revision for for “The Cloud Confines” and three stanzas for a poem he was composing at that time under the title “Commandments”, the poem commonly known as “Soothsay”. The postscript remark about “the drowning” is a reference to another poem DGR had sent to Hake a short time before, “Down Stream”.
