Homeward Bound

The work survives only as a small drawing dated December 1844. It describes “two figures in motion” ( Surtees, A Catalogue Raisonné, vol. 1, 3 ). The subject is not clear, but it appears to be part of a series illustrating scenes from “modern life,” including “No. 8. The Bivouac after the Ball,” and “No. 9. The Day after the Ball.”
