Introduction
Surtees says that the drawing is fragmented with âboth heads torn off the paper.â It depicts âtwo women. . .seated one behind the other. . .the far one only lightly sketchedâ (Vol. 1, 5).
Literary
As the imbedded text indicates, the drawing illustrates the seventh stanza of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's âThe Romaunt of Margret.â
