IntroductionÂ
Lady Burne-Jones described this (now untraced) picture as âa small water-colour made by Gabriel of her, radiant in golden hair,âjust the head and throat on an emerald-green background âand deeply did we feel the tribute rendered to her beauty when we read the names which he had written around the four sides of the picture: BEATRICE HELEN GUENEVERE HERBERTâ. For further comment on Ruth Herbert and DGR see what may have been the first drawing he made of her.
